Mission Two: The Forest

[Dennurek]

Initiative = 13 + 2 = 15

Dennurek readied his blaster pistol, ready for the flashes to become enemies that he could see.

[Kironome]

OOC: Combat order is as follows : Ku, Sollux, Dennurek, Alyaza, Goa Iawah

The Birds have a similar aura as the wolves from earlier, a dark maroon.

Zipping into and out of view, the creatures continue to move closer, the wind whistling to herald their movements. One stops for a brief moment before you, flapping in mid air before zipping back into the forest. It is clear the creature's are birds. Behind its head is a pronounced feathered ridge. Its wings end in distinct points, and its tail feathers spread wide like a fan. This bird is a native creature of Vortex, the Goa Iawah. While moving perhaps too fast to respond directly to what your eyes can see, the distinct whistling created by the creature's movements is key. It is also certain that there is more than one, but how many is difficult to ascertain.

OOC: Similar combat as before. You're still stuck in a narrow forested area. This time, however, you'll need to successfully pass a Listen check (DC 10) in order to hit the birds.

[Ku Tan]

Ku listened closely to the rustling of the trees and feathers and was able to distinguish one that was coming right for him. He readied his lightsaber and slashed up at it.

Sollux listened carefully for the sound of the goa lawah, and when one zoomed in close to attack he struck at it with his Lightsaber

Dennurek listened carefully, and when he heard the location of the Goa Iawah nearest to him, he aimed to shoot.

[Alyaza]

Listen: 7+ 0=7 

Alyaza tried to listen for the approach of wings, but the sounds of the battle around her momentarily deafened her. Well this is not good. She braced herself for a sneak attack.  

[Kironome]

The birds darted in and out in a flurry of white and black feathers, never in one place for long. Three of the creatures met an early demise as they swept past. Ku expertly sliced one of the birds in half, sending singed feathers everywhere; a second quickly followed as Sollux sliced upward for another. Dennurek managed to spin quickly on his feet and intercept the bird gunning for him. He couldn't stop the momentum, however, and was still hit with a soft thud as the creature crashed into him, blood splattering his tunic.

The remaining birds seemed to move even faster in response to their comrade's demise. One flew straight for the oblivious Alyaza while the other maintained its trajectory for Ku. Alyaza hadn't been quick enough to strike down one of the enemies, but she notes the bird flying for her and managed to side step it. Ku wasnt so lucky.

The bird dove for his neck and caused a small scratch as it passed, rushing back for the trees. Ku instantly felt disoriented and sick. Unfortunatly, the Goa Iawah are known for carrying a toxic bacteria in its saliva which was trying to take hold.

OOC: First combat round is over. Ku takes 3 damage (I've already updated your mini profile.) Also, you need to make a fortitude save as you've been poisoned.

[Ku Tan]

"Gah, the bird basically bit me!" Ku exclaimed as the bird felt past and then felt extremely woozy.

He cringed from the nausea but fought through it and attempted to find another of the birds.

He heard the bird that had hit him flapping wildly behind him as it readied for another attack, Ku readied himself to strike back.

Sollux looked around, and again tried to listen for the sound of an approaching attacker. Gah, they're weaker than the wolves but there's more of them. From the looks of Ku it seems the have some sort of poison...
As the next Goa Iawah flew in, Sollux slashed at it with his Saber

[Dennurek]

The hit felt satisfying as the bird came flying at him, but the thud to the chest caught his breath and had him stagger backwards. The blood began to drip and Dennurek did his best not to have it touch his skin from his coat as it continued to go towards the forest floor.

Dennurek spotted another target in reach and aimed...

[Alyaza]

The flash of wings startled Alyaza, but she was able to dodge the birds attack. Damn that was a close one. She needed to be on her guard and be of use in this fight.

She heard the flapping of wings approaching and turned to slash with her lightsaber.

[Kironome]

Ku's vision cleared only moments after the bird bit him, and his stomach returned to normal. Luckily it seems his body purged the poison, or perhaps the bird's aim hadn't been as accurate as intended.

The group quickly finishes off the rest of the birds. The poor creatures lay strewn about the path, some in pieces, others oozing from the blaster inflicted wounds. The forest appears to lighten slightly. The narrow path takes a sharp turn a short ways ahead.

[Sollux Val]

Seeing that combat was one again over, Sollux gave a sigh of relief. Looks like we won again. Thankfully I still haven't taken any damage, but I'd like to avoid any other encounters just as well. The joy I get out of killing my aggressors with such ease is rather unsettling, and some of my companions weren't so lucky... 
"Well then... the forest certainly seems like it doesn't want us here, but we don't really have any other options but to press on. Shall we take a short break and then move forward?"

Sollux then swept his gaze towards the path ahead, trying to discern if it might be hostile, while also listening for anything else out of the ordinary

[Ku Tan]

Ku sighed with relief when all of the noise ceased. He looked around to see how much everyone had gotten hit, and saw the blood all over Dennurek, and hoped it wasn't his. "Well, those birds had some sort of toxin, felt awful for a second when the bird scratched me. Let's hope we're almost out of here." He said while glancing ahead at the path, hoping that they were near.

[Dennurek]

Avoiding the front of his cloak, Dennurek was relieved there seemed to be no other casualties besides the birds in the area. Dennurek looked down to see how bad his cloak was. Didn't seem too bad but the toxin wasn't the greatest either. I'll have to wear it for now until I can wash or replace the whole thing.

Would the toxin be of any use to us? I'm not sure I can collect it with the damage we did to the birds, but it is a little thought.

[Alyaza]

Alyaza lowered her lightsaber as the bird carcass feel at her feet. Her chest heaved with heavy breaths. If this path kept throwing enemies at them they would end up exhausted before they made their final destination. 
" How is everyone? Does anyone need healing assistance? If this path continues on and remains as dangerous as it is we will all need to be in fighting condition." 

[Ku Tan]

Alzaya, you seem to be the most in need of healing assistance, if you would I could help you, it is harder to heal oneself. After that we should really move on and try to get out of the forest.

Dennurek shifted his weight on his feet briefly, waiting for Alyaza's healing and for the others to be ready to move forward.

[Kironome]

The wind shifts, the forest bending with it. The trees bend uniformly in the direction of the path, urging you to continue your journey. The forest itself seems to want to be freed from the darkness that has taken hold.

OOC: Sorry everyone for my infrequent posts as of late. Last week of school and taking my board certification / family "celebration" equaled no time for Parker. I'll wait for 1-2 more posts (indicating you wish to move forward) and i'll push us into the next section, I promise!

[Alyaza]

"Here Dennurek I will tend to your wounds." Alyaza placed her hands over his wounds being careful not to put to much pressure and cause discomfort. She took a few deep breaths concentrating on the force within her and around her. Hope I don't botch this up....

Glad we have people able to heal. This should keep us ready for this "her" we keep hearing of. 


Ku readied himself and started moving down the path, mentioning to the others.....
